The Begining
It all started without a beginning, imagine that, something that we, with our finite minds that always need to place a starting point at things (and that might make it difficult to understand)need to try to grasp, but Gong Fu or better known as Kung Fu existed in a realm where all goodness and blessings exist, but became manifest in the phisical realm when the first human being decided to do things with the utmost excellency, and what was the motor for this incredible impulse? the desire to help those around and come closer to the source of what is commonly called CHI (The Giving force), source which many religions call God. So what does the word Gong Fu or Kung Fu Mean? There are 4 ramifications to the basic definition. The first: If you ever mention that you practice Kung Fu to a true expert or Master he will ask you what type of Kung Fu do you practice? Why would he ask this question? Have you ever been at a restaurant where the food was so delicious that you remembered it the entire week, and wanted to go back as soon as you had the possibility, or have you ever seen a couple of people dancing so beautifully that it hightend all your senses, well, for them to reach that point of giving you that enjoyment, they had to practice constantly and with major discipline for a very long time, and keep in mind, everybody, every single one of us feels lazy, tiered, hungry , and sometimes doesn't want to continue with convictions, but history has been written by those who , through the power of decision choose to make themselves overcome all these feelings , they had to have resistance and be greater than all the difficulties to be able to continue with their growth on that which they had chosen to follow,in this example, cooking and dancing. After lots of great efforts they acquired excellency in that practice, so a Master would say the Chef has Kung Fu in Cooking, and the dancers have Kung Fu in dancing. With this you can understand that whatever you decide to follow with discipline, patiance and becomes a way of serving others with excellency, than that is having Kung Fu. So First definition of Kung Fu: "The acquisition of Excellency through time". So there are as many Kung Fu as practices there are on the planet, a lot right? The second ramification, comes from something we have mentioned: GREAT EFFORT, not a little effort, not a medium effort, no, a great effort, all that we earn through great efforts we value more because it is what helps us grow, imagine winning a race 100 times because someone paid to let you win, how would you feel? Our essence likes to win things through efforts and that is what brings us to the second part of Kung Fu understanding: "Great Effort". The third, is like a tool, what if you ask for a lot of money and you receive it, but you don't have a clue what to do with it? Many people receive large amounts of money and loose it because they didn't plan on what to do with it, another example would be to think of a flat tire: If you don't know how to change the flat you are stuck, and have to ask someone to help you, so the person who helps you will ask, do you have the tools? if You do not know that the tools are in the trunk of your car than you are stuck again. If you know they are there, but niether know how to use them, stuck again, but if you know that they are there and how to use them then you will resolve the situation better, faster and with less difficulty. So that is what many masters teach through Kung Fu: "Manual for Life". The forth part of the basic Deffinition is "Refined Abilities". It is easier to understand that after making Great Efforts, for long periods of time, and having the right tools, there will be something to show for it, and that wich you can manifest will be refined and well executed, and it is those refined abilities my friend Kung Fu Panda would say "Absoloutly Awesome"!!
I have practiced a line of Kung Fu called the line of Huang Ti , Shaolin, and Taiji Quan Yang, for 23 years, and the history of those lines I will mention in later articles, but now you can understand that what I look for is to obtain excellency through time and great efforts in the line of Huang Ti, Shaolin, and Tai Chi Yang.
So enough theory, lets get to the fun part, how do we begin a true Kung Fu practice?
The first process in a classical style of Kung fu would be knowing you will not be Brad Pitt nor Angelina Jolie, nor should you want to, you are who you are and for this we can only be grateful and happy, what you can manifest nobody else can, you are unique, awesome and beautiful, so the first Kung Fu exercise would be: look into a Mirror, look into your eyes and say to yourself out loud: "It's absolutely fantastic to be me, inside me I have the whole power of the universe to manifest, I realize that I am a beautiful human being, that the source is there inside me waiting for me to bring out all my potential and to answer all my questions, my life represents the biggest opportunity to do something great for the world, wich can be done because I choose to, the moment is now" Then look at your physical body, and if you say , "I don't like the illusion of my arms that much, they are little chubby", or i want to work my legs a little because I want to see them how i visualize them in my mind, or my abs , etc", and begin working out, until when? How? Everyday at least 42 minutes until the vision that you have in your mind of your body, is what you want it to be, remember your body is mostly made up of water (72%) and how does water behave? It just becomes the form of the vessel that holds it, so you can transform your body into whatever you choose. This work will unblock the first energy point located 4 inches under you're belly button. Easy? Lots of people take a whole lifetime to be at peace with themselves, but how do we achieve it? Through Great Efforts!
So,
More Chi!!
Train Harder!
Peace be with you.
